Kitabat – Hammoudi Mustafa Jamal Aldin
Opposition is a legitimate right, whether in politics, social or intellectual life, or even in the phenomena of nature and society, the movement of the universe and the presence are based on the unity of antibody and the stages through which mankind passed in the development and growth of civilization are just a product of a class conflict and contradiction within the communities. Calmness means nothing and atrophy, opposition and difference gives life color and flavor and feed it with continuance, straightness and recovery. As the Holy Prophet said (the difference of my nation is a mercy).
The ongoing political process in Iraq now is exposed to this difference in views, analysis and speculation with the differing views in ideas, beliefs and affiliations as they will be surrounded by suspicions and appeals to dependency, caudal and unflattering occupation and meet its desires, orientations and objectives towards opponents of the occupation and its allies from Iraq and therefore doesn’t derive its existence and legitimacy from sincere national source, but from the occupying power and dominance. The politicians whether they are leaders, parties or blocs, who have their opinions and beliefs mixed and matched in the leadership of the political process do not see in these legions, which ran over the land of Iraq and toppled the former regime as armies of occupation but as armies of liberation came to save Iraq and its people from diseases and pains that they have tested for more than three decades under a dictatorial wild regime. They think that the occupation derives its legitimacy and existence with this theory and keep the political process far from occupation and its aspirations where it takes the shape of the independency and national flavor, therefore they are melting and moving in their rugged way to build a new Iraq, according to the principles and objectives that are yeasted and crystallized in their imagination over the years of opposition to the former regime in a political process with constitutional, democratic and federal frame even if it is under the foreign presence and its mechanisms pop or just perceptions and slogans far from the objective reality we have now. The difference is very clear between both parties in the visions and perceptions which is a healthy phenomenon with no doubt.
The occupation is an objective reality with no doubt whether its admirers accept this description or not, it is the dominant on all Iraqi soil without equivocation or disguise, even if the leader politicians try to deflect and deny this description of the foreign presence by calling it liberation, they are still mistaken where others strongly answer them that this heavy military presence of a multinational forces until now has no need or justification. All our political decisions and process will remain captive and restricted with this foreign presence even if we cover them with masks and are sincere, honest and fair.
This is what we gather from the experiences of peoples and nations that were and still vulnerable to the occupation. We got the same results after our bitter experience living under the domination of the occupation in all patterns for several centuries. Our Iraqi history is open and read by and assures us that Baghdad was hit by more than 15 times of foreign invasion under multiple names and titles that exhausted the city with disasters and tragedies over long years without enjoying a sovereign, independent and national decision, it must always match the aspirations and agenda of the occupier, whether it is colonized, militarized or behind border occupier, through covenants, charters and conventions. This is the truth of our reality and history.
The political process is still going on in Iraq whether we like it or not, and the Legislative Council elections is a chapter of this process and it’s a democratic practice, no matter how different views are, it is not a surrender and submit to unacceptable reality as some believe, but it is a broad participation of all Iraqi factions whether partisan or opponent to the regime, if the opposition wants to prove its presence and personality in the Iraqi street, it has to participate in all its capacity and strength in order to correct the path and change poor & beneficial facts who seized control of the Iraqi political scene and led to this tragic and shallow juncture, by culminating years of its rule with administrative corruption and devastated property and money of the people and the state, destroyed Iraq's economy and squandered its fortune on their benefits and whims without taking the citizen’s role into consideration, with no services, infrastructure, reconstruction or entertainment for lean eight years, where the people got only hopes, wishes and promises. Those years were catastrophic as a result of the rise and climb of the parasites, opportunists, and some poor and low elements that have no qualification, competence or experience that fits with their unlawfully position, it is the outcome of the narrow affiliations and partisan loyalties or for nepotism and Clientelism considerations or for sectarianism and tribalism, where they shamelessly removed from their path the honest and competent persons who are eligible for their reputation, conduct, patriotism, and good behavior.
It is true that the Iraqi people participated in more than one electoral process and has had a significant presence, but did not vote for those who are qualified and get his respect and confidence, but the votes went to people without knowing their personalities, credibility, devotion and integrity, the votes went in vain, because the lists were vague and closed on itself.
In addition, the malpractice in pressure, coercion and grooming with methods of seduction, temptation and bribes, gatherings and demonstrations, accompanied by threats, intimidation and attacks on political rivals by some dominant forces in the political arena and use religious and sectarian cover, veiling themselves with high religious authorities and Imams gowns. All these were misconducts of democracy and its style of propaganda.
Not to mention the use of the state, its services, mechanisms and security forces from the police and army for the benefit of the dominant parties and blocs and are on the top of the political process.
The boycott of the elections and refrain from participating gives the opportunity and widely allow the same elements who burned Iraqis with their greed, and personal ambitions and interests to win. The smaller the number of voters the more fortunate for them because their lists and candidates rely on their bases and parties who share their goal and booty, or they follow the methods of deception and shading the fools of our people through bribes and gifts for weak persons, exploitation of all state-owned means and services, put them at the disposal of voters targeted by them. The most thing fears these parties and blocs is the popular presence and heavy voluntary turnout at the polls by suffering & oppressed people who restrains anger and outrage for years of darkness lived while see and hear this programmed looting to its resources, without seeking any interest.
There are lists that have new fragrance, not previously known on the Iraqi arena, where they were marginalized and nameless covered by rubble and dust of the authoritarian parties, which dominate all the political and authoritarian reality in Iraq after the fall of the regime and gave no chance for Iraqis good and loyal to the soil of this country, those who are qualified, distinguished with integrity and good reputation, those who had their names not tarnished by the blood and money of Iraqis, they made sacrifices and struggled for years of oppression and loss that have passed on Iraq during the time of Saddam as they were full of heavy tragedies and concerns. The lofty goal they seek is to provide services to their people as much as purposefulness, dedication and self-denial they have without greed or self-power, and adopt the principle of change and reform what was damaged by rulers and officials who dominate the resources of the state and its property and facilities over the years that followed the overthrow of the former regime.
Boycott does not mean always fighting the occupation and its aides, minimize its followers, or discourage and disable its plans and policies. The most important opposition comes from the political process and not from outside, the true and fair practice of democracy offer for the opponents to impose their voice and prove their will and presence, in order not to allow those who are considered on their side for being the sole ruler of the political decision, and pass their goals and approach.
The patriotism push us to participate into the next election that builds the basis of the future of Iraq as a homeland and nation, not letting the poor and empty elements that carved and smashed the body of Iraq over the past eight years and in order not to turn the country into a focal point and grabs that are easy to dispel and diversify on its erosion and tearing.
